Get Involved in Coastal Cleanup Day!

On Saturday, September 15th, from 9:00 a.m. till noon, over 10,000 volunteers are expected to come together in L.A. County, taking action to rid our beaches and inland waterways of unsightly and harmful debris. Ninety-one countries around the world will take part in this extraordinary, international event!

In Pasadena, volunteers will gather at the south end of Brookside Park at 9 am and clean up the area between the Holly Street and Colorado Street Bridges in the Arroyo Seco until noon. Flows from the Arroyo Seco, a major tributary of the Los Angeles River, eventually reach the Pacific Ocean at Long Beach. In Pasadena the local sponsors of Coastal Cleanup Day are Patagonia and the Arroyo Seco Foundation.

This year there will be over 70 cleanup locations in L.A. County, where you can do your part to help improve the environment. For locations throughout the rest of California, please call 800-COAST-4U or visit the California Coastal Commission website. California Coastal Cleanup Day is coordinated in Los Angeles County by Heal the Bay in conjunction with the California Coastal Commission and the Los Angeles County Department of Beaches and Harbors. In Pasadena the local sponsors are the Arroyo Seco Foundation and Patagonia

Last year, over 10,000 volunteers from L.A. County joined together to pick up over 80,000 pounds of trash and recyclables from our beaches and waterways. We crossed a dubious record in 2004, by collecting the ten millionth pound of trash over the 20 year period. So bring your family, friends, neighbors and co-workers to participate with the thousands of volunteers around the world in taking a stand against coastal pollution on Coastal Cleanup Day.

See you in the Arroyo!
