Come to the Stream Team Meeting - February 16

The Arroyo Seco Stream Team is for those few dedicated individuals who really want to make a tangible difference in the Arroyo. It's for people who want to do more than just attend meetings or sign petitions. It's for the doers who will make a commitment to undertake ongoing projects each month to improve the Arroyo. Projects like water quality monitoring, invasive species removal, growing native trees and plants for restoration programs, and a host of other important activities.

Come to the Arroyo Seco Stream Team meeting on Thursday, February 16 at 7 pm at the Pasadena Humane Society, 361 S. Raymond Avenue in Pasadena (near the Del Mar Gold Line Station) to get involved.

To find out more, send an email to Watershed Coordinator Jonathan Frame: jonathan@arroyoseco.org or call (323) 405-7326.

Josephine Axt, Chief of Planning for the Los Angeles Division of the US Army Corps of Engineers presented an overview of the Corps’ Arroyo Seco ecosystem study to 50 Arroyo fans at the Arroyo Seco Foundation's first Watershed Breakfast at the University Club of Pasadena on January 25th.

The US Army Corps of Engineers study of the Arroyo Seco offers invaluable analysis and insights on how to craft an environmentally sound restoration of the natural splendor of the Arroyo Seco.

You can catch the flavor of the event and see the highlights of this very important study at the links below.

Caltech gets active in the Arroyo

The Arroyo Seco Foundation was invited to speak at Caltech’s Net Impact group on January 12. Tim Brick and Jonathan Frame gave an overview of the nature in the Arroyo Seco as well as the environmental issues surrounding Hahamongna.

The following week, forty Caltech students took a field trip to tour Hahamongna Watershed Park and the Upper Arroyo. This event was sponsored by the environmental club Caltech Y, led by PhD candidate Toni Lee. The gorgeous January weather made for a wonderful afternoon hike. The students enjoyed getting out of the lab to take in the natural beauty of Hahamongna. Local Hahamongna enthusiasts, Petrea Burchard, Barbara Ellis and Roger Klemm, were on hand to share their knowledge and passion of Hahamongna.

Physics graduate student Michael Mendenhall got some amazing pictures of Hahamongna that can be seen here: Hahamongna Magic

Mayfield Faculty

The faculty of Mayfield Junior School spent a day volunteering in the Arroyo Seco. More than a dozen teachers removed trash and invasive weeds from the Central Arroyo Seco. As a bonus the enthusiastic faculty monitored the work done for the Central Arroyo Stream Restoration Program along with Wendy Katagi of CDM.
