7th Annual Theodore Payne Native Plant Garden Tour

Sponsor:

Theodore Payne Foundation

Type:

Garden Tour

Summary:

Need some new ideas for your garden? Curious to see how other people have landscaped yards similar to yours in size, topography and/or pre-existing conditions? Want to save both water and wildlife with your gardening practices?

Description:

Well, we have a suggestion: Spoil yourself (and a friend!) with a beautiful, educational adventure -- our 7th Annual Theodore Payne Native Plant Garden Tour! In honor of the Theodore Payne Foundation's 50th Anniversary, there are 50 native plant home gardens on the Tour, and 22 of these gardens are new to the Tour this year!

The Tour is Saturday and Sunday, April 10 & 11, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. each day. Gardens on the Westside, from Brentwood to Long Beach, will be open for viewing on Saturday, April 10; gardens in the San Fernando and San Gabriel valleys will be open for viewing on Sunday, April 11. And two gardens in Beverly Hills and Tujunga will be open for viewing both days.

Fifty gardens? How expensive is this Tour? Only $20.00, for both days! The ticket/program guide contains descriptions of each garden and Thomas Guide instructions. For each garden, there are also icons indicating whether the garden has clay soil, attracts hummingbirds, is shady, etc. Many people plan their tour route based on garden situations most similar to their own. At each garden, homeowners and docents will be there to answer your questions. The plants are labeled, and each garden has a plant list available both at the garden and online.

Like to see some photographs and plant lists before the Tour? Go online to our website www.theodorepayne.org and "click" on "Special Events", then "Garden Tour"... and prepare to be amazed!

Have any friends that are skeptical about California native plants? Take them on the Tour and show them the beauty of the thousands of species native to California. Dazzle your friends with the sight of the magenta blooms of our native redbud tree, the pendulous pink and white blossoms of our native currant bushes, the intense blue-violet flower clusters of our native lilacs... the cornucopia is too great to enumerate here!

To purchase tickets, either go online to our website www.theodorepayne.org or call the bookstore at (818) 768-1802. Help support the growing movement to beautify California gardens with native plants and to save water, energy and wildlife in the process! Thank you for your support!
