Content: | As I started to read James Behm\'s comments (May 19) on transportation and the Rose Bowl, my first thought was \"Wow, somebody else is thinking the same thing I am.\' But as I read on, I began to wonder of he has ever ridden a modern \"light-rail\' vehicle like the MTA uses on their Blue and Green lines (and very soon on our very own Gold Line.) I think one ride on a Blue Line train through downtown Los Angeles would change his mind about trying to send them down our city streets to the Rose Bowl. These are not like the streetcars that served Los Angeles so well for many years. They are in fact full-size trains like the old Red Cars and would not be tolerated on any Pasadena city street. Do I think extending the Gold Line to the Rose Bowl is a good idea? Absolutely! Not only would it significantly reduce car traffic into the bowl area for events, it would provide more convenient public transportation to that whole area of the Arroyo Seco and the many recreational activities available there. But it will need to go via some combination of subway tunnel and elevated platform to get there. I am no engineer, but I think it could be done. Would it be expensive? You bet. But as part of a cross Valley connection to Burbank airport via Glendale. It would certainly make economic sense and give a whole lot of folks more reasons to ride the Gold Line.
