PASADENA - City officials will unveil the 2010-11 budget, and will begin the hearing process at tonight's Council meeting.
The city has faced economic challenges for the last year, and is projecting to finish this year''s budget with a $5.6 million budget.

City officials have eliminated vacant positions, instituted furloughs for some staff members, and made other spending cuts.

The figures for 2010-11 are being released today, but the city will likely run a deficit again this year.

City officials have said it will likely take until 2014 for the city to balance its budget.

Other items on the agenda include:

-An appeal on a Design Commission ruling on the controversial $75-million Playhouse Plaza project that it approved in November. The Design Commission did not approve the project, which would be located at the corner of Colorado and South El Molino boulevards.

-A discussion on the possibility of making changes to its plans for the Hahamongna Watershed Park, reviewing whether to cut down the number of sports fields that are planned.

-The approval of issuing $11 million in federal tax-free bonds from the federal stimulus bill for a project at 880 E. Colorado Boulevard

The Council meeting takes place at City Hall and starts at 6:30 p.m.
