Content: | ALTADENA -- County inspectors have ordered an Altadena resident off his Millard Canyon land for illegally living in a motor home at the creekside property. Henry Corbett, who co-owns the site with son Aaron Corbett of La Crescenta, received a notice of violation from county Regional Planning Department inspector Alex Garcia on July 2. They must move the motor home within 15 days or the case could be referred to the county District Attorney, said Sussy Nemer, deputy for county Supervisor Mike Antonovich, who represents the area. County firefighters also were called out to the property last week after a neighbor reported seeing a camp fire, Nemer said. Millard Canyon is considered an extreme fire hazard area by the county fire department and no open fires are allowed. Henry Corbett did not return a call seeking comment Tuesday. The violation notice is one of several issued to the Corbetts since May 6. That\'s when the family\'s efforts to clear the undeveloped land and build two houses on it came to the attention of government inspectors after residents complained an oak and sycamore-shaded stream was being threatened. The Corbetts allegedly dumped about 15 truckloads of dirt near Millard Creek, a drinking water source for Altadena and Pasadena. Because the undeveloped land\'s narrow entrance was too small for a truck-delivered trash bin, the Corbetts had planned to build a dirt pad for the bin. Officials said the family also cleared a 150-foot-long area adjacent to Millard Creek and north of the entrance, built a small cinder-block wall and installed a chain-link fence. The work near Millard Creek was performed without permits required by the county Department of Public Works, the state Department of Fish and Game and the Army Corps of Engineers. The Corbetts followed stop-work orders from the departments and covered the dirt pile with plastic to prevent erosion, Henry Corbett said. \"I\'ve spoken with all the authorities and I\'m going to completely abide by what they want,\' he said in May. However, Nemer said Tuesday the Corbetts have not complied with the county\'s orders to clean up the property. \"There was a little bit of cleanup initially, but as far as zoning violations, it\'s all pretty much still there,\' Nemer said. Aaron Corbett bought the 13- acre site for $401,500 in June 2002, outbidding the Santa Monica Mountains Conservancy at an auction in Pasadena probate court. The four parcels are zoned for single-family houses flatter areas slated for six houses per acre and steep sites at one house per acre. -- Becky Oskin can be reached at (626) 578-6300, Ext. 4451, or by e-mail at becky.oskin@sgvn.com. |
