(Raul Roa/Staff Photographer / February 7, 2013) Pasadena might ax Rose Bowl nonprofit Oct. 11, 2010: City Council approves Rose Bowl renovations that are expected to cost $151.9 million. Jan. 25, 2011: Project breaks ground. April 2011: Unanticipated foundation work increases project’s price tag to $156.5 million. December 2011: Cost estimate climbs to $160.7 million after contracts for press box and seating pavilion work come in over budget. January 2012: Press box and seating area demolition work begins. June 2012: Workers finish placing steel beams for press box and seating construction; projected cost of work approved in 2010 reaches $176.9 million. September 2012: Stadium officials approve a $6-million change order for pavilion work that increases the project budget to about $184 million. November 2012: Estimated cost of completing renovation plans reaches $194.8 million. Rose Bowl officials postpone many upgrades planned for 2013 after bids for construction work exceed projections. January 2013: Stadium officials have committed to more than $160 million in construction contracts with about $135 million to pay for them. Pasadena City Council members approve $30 million in additional borrowing so the stadium can pay its bills. 2014 to 2018: Stadium revenue is expected to pay for $16 million in work, increasing total renovation spending to $181 million in 2018. About $14 million in planned upgrades are on indefinite hold pending additional funds.
