As a former member of the Rose Bowl Operating Company, I know well the difficult choices that must be made about the use and viability of the Rose Bowl. While compromises can certainly be made, officials must recognize that there are several goals that must all be achieved.

I challenge Bill Thomson\'s recent comment that the only significant goal is saving the Rose Bowl for football and soccer and assert that other recreational uses, the quality of life in the greater Rose Bowl area, and preservation of the beauty of this jewel of the Arroyo Seco are also essential goals. I am fearful of the consequences of what \"the NFL will want in return for making such a large investment.\'

Great cities don\'t destroy their assets, they build them. Please, Pasadena, don\'t destroy this great stadium, this great work of art, but learn how to love it and use it well.
