Content: | PASADENA -- A draft plan detailing how Pasadena Water & Power will manage, store and deliver water over the next 25 years will be held Tuesday at Donald Wright Auditorium at the Pasadena Central Library. The state requires the city to submit a 25-year Urban Water Management Plan to the California Department of Water Resources every five years. The plan includes information on projected water supplies, demand management, conservation, water supply reliability, and water quality. \"We\'re in good shape\" over the next 25 years, especially in water supply, city spokeswoman Ann Erdman said. Pasadena has a large natural groundwater supply and imports other water from the Metropolitan Water District, which serves most of Southern California. Sporadic rainfall and the resulting \"percolating ponds\" serve as the city\'s third source of water. One challenge that Pasadena continues to face is the deterioration of the city\'s entire underground water-delivery infrastructure. Erdman said some of the underground pipes are more than 100 years old. A program to repair and replace the city\'s water infrastructure started three years ago and is scheduled to be complete in 15 years. Pasadena residents and business owners are all encouraged to attend the community meeting armed with questions and suggestions for all water-related issues. The draft plan is available online at Pasadena Water and Power\'s Web site, www.cityofpasadena.net/waterandpower. Those interested in more information can call (626) 744-4409. |
