A three-week storm that produced a record 38.18 inches of rain climaxed with a spectacular cloudburst north of downtown Los Angeles, sweeping milkman George Stoltz, along with two of his horses, to his death in the Arroyo Seco. His body was not found until weeks later, after his wagon and milk cans had floated downstream. Others fell into the raging water but were able to pull themselves out.
