A man fatally stabbed his ex-wife and mother-in-law during an argument and then drove to a famous \"suicide bridge\" and jumped to his death today, police said.

The names and ages of the victims were not immediately released.

The man went to a home in the foothill community of Tujunga northeast of downtown shortly before 9 a.m. and confronted his ex-wife, then attacked her with a knife, Lt. Ted Matthews said.

When his mother-in-law tried to intervene, he stabbed her as well, Matthews said.

The mother-in-law died at the scene and the ex-wife died about an hour later at a hospital.

The man drove off in a car and police were concerned that he might be heading to nearby Mountain View Elementary School, which the man\'s daughter attends.

The school was locked down and school police were sent to guard its gates and took the child into protective custody, Matthews said.

However, the man apparently never went to the campus, Matthews said.

A short time after the attack, the man drove about 11 miles east to Pasadena, where he jumped from the Colorado Street Bridge, Matthews said.

The 150-foot-high bridge, built in 1913, is a historic landmark known locally as \"suicide bridge\" because dozens of people jumped from it over the years. The curving bridge spans the Arroyo Seco south of the Rose Bowl.
