Dear Congressman (Name):
I am writing to ask you to redouble your efforts to secure adequate funding for the US Army Corps of Engineers' Arroyo Seco Watershed Feasibility Study (ASWFS).
On October 26, 2005 USACE held the kick-off meeting for the Arroyo Seco Watershed Feasibility Study at La Casita del Arroyo in Pasadena, but then two weeks later we were informed that the federal budget for FY2006 contained only $100,000 for the study. the Administration's budget for FY2007 does not contain any funding for this project. ASWFS is a $2.7 million study, of which the Corps is expected to contribute half. The local partners, including the County of Los Angeles, Pasadena, South Pasadena, Los Angeles and La Caņada Flintridge have all agreed to provide the local match. Despite this growing momentum, the federal funding setback will seriously delay the project.
This outstanding project promises to restore and enhance the beauty of the one of Southern California's greatest natural treasures, the Arroyo Seco and to help us better manage our watershed in the face of threats and curtailments on imported water supplies.
In order to move the project ahead on the planned three year pace, funding needs to be $600,000 for FY2007. Congressman Adam Schiff has submitted an appropriations request for $600,000 for ASWFS. I urge you to support this appropriations request in every way you can.
Thank you for your leadership in promoting better management of water resources and the environment and in improving our local communities.
Gratefully,
