Walkabouts Past
Rare environmental sites like Hahamongna in the Arroyo Seco have the power to teach us about nature and about ourselves. In Australia young aborigines take a trek in the outback to discover personal identity and cultural awareness through an intense nature experience.
Hahamongna Walkabout is that kind of journey of discovery in our region's most environmentally rich and rare spot. Participants will take an escorted walking tour of Hahamongna, stopping at strategically placed learning stations to discover about the recreation, habitat, wildlife, birds and water resources in that unique basin at the foot of the San Gabriel Mountains.

Hahamongna Walkabout 2017
The 2017 Walkabout had to be cancelled at the last moment because of a massive storm. We always welcome rain, but its timing was a real shame because the theme of the event was "Restoring a Living River."
This walkabout asked: "What is the future of Hahamongna? Will we treat it as a river or as a maintenance yard? That's the challenge that our generation faces." This Hahamongna Walkabout was to feature programs that are working to restore and enhance Hahamongna as a unique natural treasure with a living river flowing through it.

Hahamongna Walkabout 2016
The 2016 Walkabout was the NO DIG! Walkabout with tour and briefing for interested local residents, activists and outdoor enthusiasts about the devastating impacts of Los Angeles County's Sediment removal project. Participants hiked the area of Hahamongna that would be severly and permanently destroyed by the massive excavation program, the Big Dig. They toured the willow forest that would be destroyed and identified species of plants, animals and birds that would be forever harmed.

The 2015 Hahamongna Walkabout will be the fifth special exploration of that rare spot at the mouth of the Arroyo Seco near Jet Propulsion Laboratory. The event began in 2011 after the Los Angeles County Flood District announced that they intended to scour the basin of much of the habitat and natural conditions that make the area so unique. Each even since then has been different.
