I must confess, I don’t know my schedule for Saturday, for Sunday, even for the long, Memorial Day weekend. There, that felt good to get that out. You ever try riding a bike in the San Gabriel Valley? A hazardous undertaking. The roads are made for cars and now, giant SUVs. What the Valley needs are more bike lanes and bike paths.
Some paths exist. But there are so few signs or maps they are hard to find. Karen and I rode on a short stretch of the Arroyo Seco on Sunday and visited several ‘‘Museums of the Arroyo’’ which were open with free admission.
The museum volunteers said the Lummis Home did not have a bike rack. He advised us to lock them to a tree.
After seeing the Lummis Home and the Heritage Square Museum, our journey on bike took us into the arroyo, where broken bottles, tires, and old computers litter the landscape. Finding the way onto the path and the way out was also an adventure.
The Arroyo Seco is a great location for a bike trail from Los Angeles to Pasadena. If we can build a train, we can pave a bicycle path with signs and maps.
