WATERSHED COORDINATOR


The Arroyo Seco Foundation seeks a Watershed Coordinator to manage and expand existing water conservation, habitat protection, watershed management, and community outreach programs along the 22-mile Arroyo Seco, Southern California’s most historic and treasured stream canyon.


DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. Conduct outreach programs related to watershed issues, including water quality and water conservation to a broad audience, including civic leaders, neighborhood groups, agency personnel, and school groups
  2. Work with federal, state, county and municipal agency personnel in coordinating project implementation from a watershed perspective.
  3. Develop partnerships with local water agencies and environmental organizations to promote water conservation and water quality improvements.
  4. Assist volunteer groups in collecting and evaluating relevant data related to water quality in the Arroyo Seco stream and its tributaries.
  5. Assist in grant-writing and fund-raising.
  6. Cooperate with fellow team members on joint projects as required.
  7. Perform other duties as directed by the ASF Managing Director.

QUALIFICATION and REQUIREMENTS


Education: B.A. or B.S. or equivalent from an accredited institution; a background in environmental studies, watershed science or engineering would be beneficial.


Experience: At least 2 years work experience in the environmental field or community organizing. Demonstrated commitment to environmental stewardship. General knowledge about water, the environment and watershed issues essential. Good rapport and strong oral communication skills are needed. Excellent written skills and grant-writing ability is required. Experience in working with volunteers and non-profit organizations is highly desirable. Bilingual English/Spanish writing and speaking skills is a plus.


Technical Skills: Computer proficiency is required, including knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite, Power Point, and Excel. Website development and database management skills are desirable. Must have good general administrative skills, including the ability to track projects, file timely reports, and prepare grant invoicing.


Organizational Skills: Must possess a great work ethic and ability to work independently, be conscientious, have an eye for detail, be a team player and build strong teams among diverse constituencies.


COMPENSATION & WORK SCHEDULE


This position is a fulltime position based upon a 40-hour workweek funded for three years. Compensation is $25 an hour, inclusive of benefits.
