Fighting to Save the Bird Fountain Oak |
|
Our stirring story began a few weeks ago when a jogger stopped Ray Dashner and
Barbara Dahn of the Arroyo Brigade and asked about an ominous
notice on a stately oak tree at the Bird Fountain located across
from 460 S. Arroyo Blvd. in Pasadena. Ray and Barbara, who have
spent countless hours working as volunteers to care for the Arroyo, went to inspect the tree and decided that this was a tree worth
saving. They sent an email to city officials . . . But this is a story that tells itself. The best way to follow it is to review the chronology of events. You can read the actual messages and documents. It's a blow-by-blow account of a dramatic fight to save a grand tree and to maintain the natural charm of the Arroyo Seco.
