Governor Announces Major River and Park Funding

 

May 15, 2000 -- Governor Gray Davis in the May Revision of the Governor's Budget included $83.5 million in funding for the establishment of the Los Angeles River Parkway. 

The budget revision message states: "The May Revision, includes $83.5 million to develop a broad range of local urban parks in the Los Angeles area, with the Los Angeles River as the thread linking these new parks.  Funding is also provided to begin the establishment of a new State park along the Los Angeles River.

The budget also set aside Proposition 12 and 13 funds for the following purposes:

$80.3 million Flood Protection (including Los Angeles County)
$84.5 million River Protection and Restoration including LA and San Gabriel Rivers
$75.0 million Land Conservation Matching Grant Program for matching grants for the purchase of parks and open space preserves and for the preservation of wildlife preserves.

$674.3 million

Neighborhood and State Parks including Baldwin Hills, Topanga Canyon, Bolsa Chica and Malibu Creek
