WPRA joins other neighborhood associations voicing concerns about corporate naming of pubic space in the Arroyo Seco (Oct 2016)

The West Pasadena Residents\' Association, the East Arroyo Residents\' Association, and the Linda Vista-Annandale Association wrote a letter to Mayor Terry Tornek and City Manager Steve Mermell describing serious concerns about naming public facilities after corporate sponsors and the process being used to approve signage in the Arroyo Seco.

These concerns were sparked by proposals brought to our attention by Rose Bowl management for signage for Rose Bowl Drive and for improving and renaming Area H in the Central Arroyo. We appreciate philanthropic offers to support Central Arroyo facilities, but are concerned that
  • The Central Arroyo must not be dominated by corporate branding; public parks and facilities should not be named after sponsors.

  • Modifications and improvements to the Central Arroyo must go through the normal review processes.

Update: The Rose Bowl Operating Company Board, at it\'s October 6 meeting, heard our concerns and voted to work with the City to establish appropriate guidelines which they will follow for all their donor recognition and signs in the Arroyo.
