Pasadena Weekly Features Nursery

The subhead reads "Nick Hummingbird and Local Nature Lovers Fight to Keep Hahamongna Cooperative Nursery Open," and that is the dramatic story André Coleman tells in this week's edition of the Pasadena Weekly. Haha Committee Recommends Extension

Thanks to all the supporters and volunteers who came out to the Public Works Yards on Thursday night to tell the Hahamongna Watershed Park Advisory Committee and Pasadena officials how much the nursery means to them. After Pasadena Public Works staff expressed concerns about going ahead with the nursery now, the public spoke forcefully and from the heart. There were many speakers, but they all had an eloquent and unique way of testifying to the lessons they have learned from Nick Hummingbird and the plants and of extolling the great benefits the nursery can bring now and in the future to Pasadena and our region. In the end the committee decided by a narrow 4-3 vote to recommend an extension for the nursery and to instruct city staff to undertake an investigation of the long-term prospects and benefits of the native plant nursery.
