ALERT: Hahamongna Walkabout Cancelled
What is the future of Hahamongna? Will we treat it as a river or as a maintenance yard? That's the challenge that our generation faces. The Fifth Annual Hahamongna Walkabout will feature programs that are working to restore and enhance Hahamongna as a unique natural treasure with a living river flowing through it. Highlights will include the Los Angeles River Rover, presentations on the importance of sediment and County Flood Control District's Big Dig program, the Arroyo Seco Canyon Project and the Hahamongna Nursery.
Hahamongna Walkabout will be a journey of discovery in our region's most environmentally rich and rare spot. Participants can view the exhibits and take an escorted walking tour of Hahamongna, stopping at strategically placed learning stations to learn about recreation, habitat, wildlife, birds and water resources in this unique basin at the foot of the San Gabriel Mountains.

This year Hahamongna Walkabout learning stations will include:
 | The Los Angeles River RoverThe Arroyo Seco is one of the key tributaries of the Los Angeles River. Historically the Arroyo was a steelhead stream, filled with native trout making their way back and forth to the Pacific Ocean via the LA River. Friends of the Los Angeles River will bring the LA River Rover to Hahamongna to show all the great activity going on to revitalize the Los Angles River. There are exhibits and interactive displays to learn about the rich natural heritage of the LA River and what is being done to enhance it. |  | The Value of SedimentSediment is a key part of stream and river function, but some people still think of it as a waste product. It fosters habitat and aquatic species. It's vital to the health of the Arroyo Seco ecosystem. That's why the Arroyo Seco Foundation and the Pasadena Audubon Society have filed a lawsuit against the Los Angeles County Flood Control District's Big Dig program to scrap 2.4 million cubic yards out of the Hahamongna basin. You will be able to find out the latest on the lawsuit and what it means for the future of Hahamongna. |
 | Arroyo Seco Canyon ProjectJust up the canyon into the mountain watershed of the Arroyo Seco, a dynamic project is ready to begin soon. The Arroyo Seco Canyon Project, a partnership between the Pasadena Water and Power Department and the Arroyo Seco Foundation, is an innovative program to improve water resources, habitat, and recreational opportunities in the area between Hahamongna Watershed Park and the Angeles National Forest. Projects like this that contribute to long-term sustainability become all the more vital as our region faces severe drought conditions. Hahamongna Walkabout this year will feature a tour of the three sites in the Arroyo that will be improved. |
 | Hahamongna NurseryHabitat restoration will be a key component of the Arroyo Seco Canyon Project and of restoring a living river in the Arroyo Seco. We're growing the plants for the Canyon Project from seeds and cuttings taken from the project site at the Hahamongna Nursery just south of Jet Propulsion Laboratory. You can visit the nursery as part of Hahamongna Walkabout, and you can get involved, so stop by and check it out! |
 | Oak Grove Area ImprovementsPasadena is pursuing an exciting series of projects in the southwest corner of Hahamongna Watershed Park. Funding has been obtained and a community planing process has been established for trail and habitat improvements, Berkshire Creek restoration and other projects that will benefit equestrians, hikers and disc golf players. Hahamongna Walkabout will feature exhibits that illustrate the improvements. |
