Proposition P – Funding for Parks in LA CountyCome out for an informational workshop on October 23, 6:30pm at the Pacific Community Center in Glendale. While city, state and federal funding for parks and recreation has been decreasing during the past 20 years, twenty years ago LA County voters approved a mechanism to providing continuing funding for parks through Los Angeles County. That vote, the Safe Neighborhood Parks Tax Measure in 1992, has generated about $54 million a year for neighborhood and regional parks and recreation, but it is now about to expire. Proposition P on the November 4th ballot, would collect a new $23 parcel tax to maintain park funding for the next thirty years. Funds will only be spent for parks, recreation, and open space projects in LA County. For more information: Prop P Fact Sheet.

Fall Is Here — but the Drought ContinuesWith the weather cooling off and fog rolling in, it looks like we are finally at the end of a particulary hot and dry summer. We would like to remind you that, despite milder weather, we are still in an exceptional drought and it will take time for our water supplies to recover, even with El Niño storms. Water restrictions remain in places, and some communities, such as Los Angeles, have incresed the penalty for wasteful use. Even if your community doesn't have restrictions in place, we urge you to take a few simple steps to help use water more efficiently. Los Angeles' Mayor Garcetti has issued a Executive Directive outlining an Emergency Drought Response for Los Angeles which includes some good action steps. Visit our conservation page to learn more about how you can help, and don't forget that there are many rebates available for conservation investments around your home or business — they may have gone up since you last checked! Visit socalwatersmart.com or contact your local water provider for more information.
