Join us for an eventful evening. Enjoy the Fruitful Waters, Flowing Valley exhibit, a lecture by its curator, and music by Art Deco and His Society Orchestra. Tim Brick, the curator of Flowing Waters, Fruitful Valley, will present an overview of the exhibit and discuss how water has shaped Pasadena and the west San Gabriel Valley. Mr. Brick will cover water's pivotal role in forming and reforming the geography, politics, economy, and lifestyle of our region. Following the lecture we will move outdoors for a concert titled Watercolors. The Art Deco sextet will perform classical, jazz, and pop music with a water-theme—from Handel's "Water Music" to Darin's "Splish Splash." Lecture: Members, free; Non-members, $5. Concert: Members, free; Non-members, $15.

Lecture: Reminiscences of William Mulholland

Sunday, October 10, 2:00 pm

Catherine Mulholland, the granddaughter of the legendary water developer from Los Angeles, who has written the seminal biography, William Mulholland and the Rise of Los Angeles, will focus on Mulholland the person, with special comments on his relationship to Pasadena and to the political context of the early 20th century. Tickets: Members free; General $10, includes admission to the exhibitions.

Streams of Life Celebration

Sunday, October 17, 1:00 to 5:00 pm

Join in this free family event celebrating the Tongva/Gabrielino culture. The Tongva, ancient inhabitants of the San Gabriel Valley, viewed water as a sacred life force. Today, descendents have kept the traditions alive. Visitors will experience Native American music, dance, arts, and crafts.

Bus Tour: Benjamin Eaton & Local History

Saturday, October 30, 9:00 am and 1:00 pm

Experience living history as Benjamin Eaton, portrayed by Tim Brick, leads a bus tour to historical water spots around our community. Learn about the history of the Indiana Colony, the San Gabriel Orange Grove Association, and how water played a key role in the development of the Pasadena area. Tickets: Members $20; Non-members $25.

Healthy Watersheds: A homeowner's guide to their care & feeding

Saturday, November 6, 2004, 9:00 am to 12:00 noon

This free workshop, at the Altadena Community Center, 730 E. Altadena Drive, offers a brief overview and demonstration of how the watershed functions and where our water comes from, and then gets down to the nitty gritty of best management practices on the household level. A series of experts will deliver short illustrated talks. Topics covered include increasing permeable surfaces in your garden, keeping more storm runoff out of storm drains, drought-tolerant and native plants, how trees can help you save money, and a design approach to creating beautiful gardens. Lots of free goodies and information will be distributed.

Lecture: How Pasadena Fits Into the California Water Picture

Tim Quinn, Vice President of the Metropolitan Water District of Southern California, will review the major water challenges that confront California in the 21st century and the role that residents of our region have in developing positive solutions. Dr. Quinn has been a leading force in developing innovative approaches to water reliability and environmental stewardship. Tickets: Members free; General $10, includes admission to the exhibitions.

Bus Tour: St. Francis Dam & Los Angeles Aqueduct

Saturday, November 13, 8:30 am to 4:00 pm

Join local historian and author Paul Rippens on a bus tour exploring a pivotal event in Los Angeles history - the 1928 failure of the St. Francis Dam. Learn the story of what it took to bring water to Southern California, the role it played in the birth and growth of Los Angeles, and how these achievements culminated in the second worst natural disaster to strike the state. The bus is fully equipped, some walking is required, and a picnic lunch is included. Tickets, including picnic lunch: Members, $35; Non-members $40.

Arroyo Artstreams Workshop

Sunday, November 21, 1:00 to 4:00 pm

You are invited to a unique art workshop, co-sponsored by Armory Center for the Arts, focusing on the natural wonders of the historic Arroyo Seco. Participants will meet at the Museum where they will learn how the Arroyo has changed through time, and then shuttle to the Pasadena Casting Club in the Arroyo Seco. Artists will lead hands-on activities that explore the connection between man and the environment. Contact Museum for ticket information.
