Job Description: Watershed Coordinator Program Assistant


The Arroyo Seco Foundation seeks a program assistant to complete tasks related to the Arroyo Seco Watershed Coordination and Sustainability Programs for a six month period of time beginning immediately through the end of December, 2007.


The watershed coordination and sustainability programs involve work with local organizations and agencies, volunteers and the general public to educate the communities of the Arroyo Seco, including Pasadena, Los Angeles, La Canada Flintridge, Altadena and South Pasadena, about issues regarding the watershed and its management.


The program assistant will provide day to day support for a variety of ongoing projects including a water conservation campaign, source water awareness, outreach to agencies and community organizations, environmental education, a native plant nursery and other activities. Responsibilities involve a range of field and office activities, assisting with fundraising activities, coordination of meetings, volunteer management, and project development. Training will be provided as needed.


SKILLS SOUGHT

The successful candidate will have good administrative and communication skills. The candidate should have basic computer skills including familiarity with MS Office programs. Experience with website and database programs is desirable. Applicants must have a CA Driver’s License. Candidates should have good writing, educational and organizational skills, work cooperatively with others in a team environment, and carry out tasks independently within a supervised context.


Basic Goals & Objectives are to promote water conservation and improved water quality as well as community and institutional partnerships to accomplish these goals.


Programmatic objectives include administrative compliance with program requirements; educational outreach to community leaders, residents and public officials; and promotion and implementation of sound principles of conservation, environmental awareness and watershed management among individuals, agencies and organizations.


Selected Duties & Responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following types of activities:

  • Perform basic administrative functions in a timely and efficient way;
  • Assist in dissemination of educational programs regarding wise water use and conservation strategies;
  • Track and monitor program effectiveness and prepare timely reports.

Terms – We hope to fill this position as soon as possible. The position is funded through December, 2007. Total compensation is $25 per hour. The program assistant will work under direct supervision of ASF’s Managing Director and with the Arroyo Seco Watershed Coordinator based at the Arroyo Seco Foundation office in Pasadena.
