May 16, 2007 - The natural stretch of the Arroyo just above the Colorado Street Bridge was alive with energetic volunteers Saturday as the Arroyo Seco Foundation joined with Friends of the Los Angeles River for the 18th annual Great L.A. An eager crew of 116 volunteers waded through the stream and the shoreline to remove more than 900 pound of trash include an abandoned shopping cart, a manhole cover, a smashed tv and plastic, plastic and more plastic from the streamzone.

It was An Energetic Crew Ready to Go

This was the first introduction to the Arroyo for many of the volunteers who expressed their surprise that such a beautiful stream flows through Pasadena as it makes its way to join the Los Angeles River just north of downtown Los Angeles. The Arroyo Seco Stream Team, environmental professionals Camp Dresser McKee (CDM) worked alongside students from PCC, Southwest Academy and other local educational institutions.

Picking Up Plastic at the End of the Flood Channel

The Cleanup included thirteen sites along the LA River, such as Arroyo Seco, a major tributary of the river. The Los Angeles City Council voted unanimously last week to approve the Los Angeles River Revitalization Master Plan providing an ambitious vision to transform the 32 miles within LA. ASF is working to link Arroyo planning and restoration efforts through the watershed with the new master plan.
