Senator Portantino's Arroyo Seco Bill Moves Ahead

Senator Anthony Portantino wants to make sure that the Arroyo Seco doesn't get left out of LA River planning, so he introduced legislation to include the Arroyo in the newly-formed Upper Los Angeles River and Tributaries Working Group that was formed by the legislature last year.

ASF is proud to support the bill and pleased to report tha the bill received unanimous support in the California Senate and has now moved to the Assembly.

ASF has been helping plan and spread the word about the potential for the LA River Rangers to improve safety and users experience on the LA River and its tributaries.

New District Ranger Appointed for Angeles National Forest

Jamahl Butler has been named the new District Ranger for the Angeles National Forest Los Angeles Gateway District, which includes the Arroyo Seco. Butler has recently served as the Acting District Ranger. Jamal has worked for the US Forest Service for eight years and has an impressive background in and dedication to ecological restoration and conservation.

Brown Canyon Dam — Then and Now

Paul Ayers unearthed these pictures of Brown Canyon Dam three and a half miles up the Arroyo Seco Canyon from the mouth of the Arroyo near JPL. The first is soon after construction in 1942; the second is from this April.
